Exercise 1
We are going to get you to write a list of all the PAIN someone has because they can not solve a problem. The problem is being solved in your information product.

You see, now it has knocked out all first dates, because these people have obviously dated before, or they would not be divorced. My target market will probably be:
People who have kids of different age groups.
So, in my sales letter, I may have to really reach a certain age group because we now know that the majority of them will be over 30, have kids from 3 to 40 years old (for all that I know).
My niche is just divorced people. People get divorced at all ages. But, I can generalize with the bits of knowledge that I am imagining.
So, to make my writing easier, I simply create two divorced people in my mind. Maybe you know a divorced couple?
So, I make an assumption: 41 years old. 2.81 kids with ages probably ranging from 12, 14, 17. So now, where in the world do divorced people meet someone?
(not my expertise - but, if it was, then I'd be really putting out the ideas!)
Friends, work, hobbies, college, parks, grocery stores, Parents Without Partners, if there wasn't one in my country, I'd consider starting one. Then, of course, sporting events and even at the school my kids are going to.
So, once I get some kind of idea of my target market, I can get close to them so that I can "close" them, and get them to take action.
You'll be surprised how creating your customer in your mind's eye can help you to write a sales letter from top to bottom. You sit there and talk to them 'ONE ON ONE' just as if you were at the table with them.
“Hey, Joe… I see it's been over a year since your wife left you."
"Yeah," he mumbles.
“How ya doing?”
"Ah, all right, I guess.”
"You guess?" (Raised eyebrow.)
"Well, you know - it does get lonely. I was so used to the kids bustling around now it seems deathly quiet, except when I have the kids for a visit."
"Yeah, must feel empty, huh? Have you thought about dating?"
"You know, yes, I have. It's just that I really don't know where to go to meet someone and I've already got a strike against me, being divorced and all."
"Oh, there's a cool book out, did you see it? It's called getting back on the dating track after divorce."
"Really! Where'd you hear about it?"
"Ah, Ken and Barbie got a divorce and, and Barbie now comes with Ken's wardrobe and everything else.”
“Anyway, Ken says it got him out again, and it amazed him all the ways he could meet someone new. Hey, let's check the Internet and order it, okay?"
"Yes, okay!"

Are you getting a picture here: Research, so that you know as much about your target market as you can. Then, create your customer in your mind's eye.
In fact, picture your perfect customer for your product.
And, you can write down a little dialog, until you feel comfortable talking to your imaginary customer. It's a great writing challenge.

I realize that it may seem strange to leave the GET attention until the last part of this book's exercise, but there is a method to my madness. ☺
A swipe file is a file where yougrab a copy of all clever statements that might work with your product. But, I believe you have created a product that you are interested in. You now must be your own customer!
I asked you to write down the benefits of your information product.
We need those benefits.
Again, I am going to get you to think outside the box! I know, I know, I've given you lots of exercises for the mind.
It's good for it! It's okay to relax. It is not okay to let your mind die.
The more you use it the better life gets for you!
I know, I know, I've told you a few times, to not JUDGE everything by what you like and don't like.
